Wellness means different things to different people but at its core, itโ€™s about feeling good in your body, staying present, and nourishing yourself inside and out.

Thatโ€™s a philosophy we share with Duo Movement, a Melbourne-based Pilates studio founded by Steph Amon and Laura Huntley.

Their approach to movement is grounded in connection, care, and creating spaces where people feel safe, supported, and truly welcome, whether theyโ€™re seasoned movers or just beginning their wellness journey.

With their recent two-year anniversary and the launch of their second studio, it felt like the perfect time to share their story on The Nourishment and to showcase their beautifully calm, light-filled space where we recently captured content for our newest product releases.

In this piece, we dive deeper into the rituals, intentions, and community-focused mindset behind their business and whatโ€™s next on the horizon.

The story of Duo Movement began when Steph and Laura met during their Pilates training. โ€œWe instantly connected over our love for movement and creating meaningful connections,โ€ they share. That initial bond became the foundation for a shared vision: a welcoming space that felt grounded, safe, and empowering.

โ€œWe felt inspired to create a space where people could move their bodies in a way that feels good,โ€ they explain. โ€œSomewhere they feel safe, supported, and truly welcomed.โ€ That intention still guides every class, every design choice, and every interaction with their community.

Duo Movement is about more than fitness; itโ€™s about offering a gentle alternative to traditional gym spaces, which, as they note, โ€œcan often feel intimidating, especially for those just starting their wellness journey.โ€ Both founders are deeply in tune with themselves, and they wanted that calm, grounded energy to be reflected in the studio atmosphere.

Every element of Duo Movementโ€™s spaces was chosen to create a sensory experience that feels both modern and nurturing.ย โ€œWe really wanted the studio to have a soft, calming energy,โ€ they explain. โ€œA space that feels gentle, grounding, and a little bit luxurious.โ€

From the start, the aesthetic was purposefully different from anything else in Melbourne. โ€œThe dim lighting helps create that relaxed atmosphere, and the white reformers gave the space a fresh, modern feel that was quite unique when we first opened.โ€ Theyโ€™ve also embraced scent and sound as part of the experience. โ€œWe love burning incense in the studio, it brings in a beautiful energy and helps our clients feel centered and calm as they arrive at what many call their โ€˜happy place.โ€™โ€

And then thereโ€™s the music. โ€œItโ€™s a big part of the vibe too, we keep it upbeat and joyful to match the energy of the classes.โ€ Each session is carefully bookended with intention, starting and ending with mindful breaths. Itโ€™s a small but powerful ritual, designed to help people feel present and connected.

Outside the studio, Steph and Laura are big believers in sustainable self-care. Their own wellness routines are centered on balance and feel-good rituals:ย โ€œThings like regular infrared saunas, walks in the sunshine, ocean swims, and of course, Pilates classes,โ€ they share.

Food also plays a big role in their wellbeing, whether theyโ€™re cooking at home or enjoying a favourite cafรฉ meal. โ€œItโ€™s all about balance and doing what feels good for the body and mind.โ€ That mindset aligns perfectly with how we view hydration and wellbeing at Memobottle: not as a trend, but as a lifelong practice grounded in simplicity and joy.

โ€œWe felt inspired to create a space where people could move their bodies in a way that feels good. Somewhere they feel safe, supported, and truly welcomed. We wanted to offer an alternative to the typical gym environment, which can often feel intimidating, especially for those just starting their wellness journey. Both of us are deeply in tune with ourselves and we wanted that calm, grounded energy to come through in the vibe of the studio.โ€

So whatโ€™s next for Duo Movement? While theyโ€™re holding some plans close to their chest, they hinted at the possibility of expansion. โ€œWe canโ€™t give away all our secrets just yet,โ€ they say, โ€œbut weโ€™d definitely love to open a third location when the time feels right.โ€

In the meantime, theyโ€™re loving the creative energy of teaching dynamic reformer Pilates, classes filled with movement, joy, and a touch of play. โ€œTheyโ€™re always creative, full of good energy, and most importantly, a whole lot of fun!โ€

And for Steph and Laura, creating these safe, welcoming spaces is a deeply rewarding experience. โ€œItโ€™s been so special to see the community grow and witness how people show up for themselves in the studio.โ€
